The European Structural and Investment (ESI) Funds are the European Union’s financial instrument to implement EU Cohesion Policy. This policy, which is also referred to as the ‘Regional Policy of the EU’, aims to reduce the significant economic, social and territorial disparities that exist between Europe’s regions. The ESI Funds that will be invested during the period 2014-2020 are together worth €638 billion of which €454 billion comes from the EU. All European regions are eligible for funding.
