National Level Policies

The National Level Policies section of the portal provides an overview of
the actual situation concerning actions to tackle health inequalities in the
different European countries.

This part of the portal is currently being developed, the information for the remaining countries will continuously be completed.

In addition to the national level portraits of the individual countries the
overview analysis has been conducted and its initial results have been
published in EuroHealth magazine (EuroHealth, 11:2 p.24).

3) Flemish Action Plan to Combat Poverty (2005-2009)
The Flemish Action Plan to Combat Poverty contains both horizontal and vertical consultation processes. In the horizontal consultation representatives of people living in poverty (Flemish network), civil servants and a number of experts design, coordinate and monitor the measures in the Plan. At least twice a year, this is supplemented by a vertical consultation in each policy department between the competent minister, the ministry, the “associations in which the poor have a say” and the field of activity.

4.) The General Poverty Report was published in 1994, describing the state of affairs on poverty in Belgium. An important - and in those days unique - quality of the document lies in the participation of the poor themselves. The target-group was highly involved in writing the texts, thanks to a solid collaboration with the so-called “associations in which the poor have a say”. The book gave a never-seen view of poverty and what it means to the people concerned. It was an important eye-opener for many policy makers and informed a multitude of projects and initiatives.

1) Ongelijkheid in gezondheid - Beleidsaanbevelingen
Hoe gezondheidsverschillen tussen sociale groepen terugdringen? (2007)

Aanbevelingen van de werkgroep ‘Ongelijkheid in gezondheid’ van de Koning Boudewijnstichting voor alle overheden in België
Vertegenwoordigers van het brede veld van gezondheidszorg en welzijnszorg formuleren beleidsvoorstellen aan federale en regionale overheden in België.

De werkgroep ongelijkheid in gezondheid van de Koning Boudewijnstichting, samengesteld uit vertegenwoordigers van het brede veld van gezondheids- en welzijnszorg, formuleerde beleidsvoorstellen om ongelijkheid in gezondheid te verminderen voor de federale en regionale (Gewest en Gemeenschappen) overheden.

De werkgroep werd hierbij ondersteund door een team van wetenschappelijke experten van ULB en UGent, een vertegenwoordiger van EuroHealthNet, en twee strategisch adviseurs.

2) Belgische initiatieven om de ongelijkheid in gezondheid te verkleinen.
1995-2006 Overzicht van recente initiatieven betreffende sociaal-economische ongelijkheid in gezondheid in België (2008)

Dit dossier geeft een overzicht van de initiatieven die op de verschillende beleidsniveaus (federaal, Gemeenschappen en Gewesten, provincies en lokale besturen) de jongste 15 jaar genomen zijn om ongelijkheid in gezondheid te verminderen.

Inhoud: De beleidsinitiatieven werden gestructureerd aan de hand van de belangrijkste gezondheidsdeterminanten volgens het model van Whitehead.

3) Observatorium voor Gezondheid en Welzijn
Het Observatorium voor Gezondheid en Welzijn is een beleidsondersteunende ploeg die zich in gezondheids- en welzijnsthema's verdiept. Ze staat ten dienste van alle actoren die meewerken aan de uitbouw van het Brusselse welzijns- en gezondheidsbeleid: politieke verantwoordelijken, terreinwerkers en onderzoekers.

5) Federale Overheidsdienst
FOD Volksgezondheid, Veiligheid van de Voedselketen en Leefmilieu

6) Het Federaal Kenniscentrum voor de Gezondheidszorg (KCE) is een publieke instelling (parastatale), opgericht op federaal niveau. Haar opdracht: studierapporten maken om de beleidsmakers bij te staan in hun beslissingen. Deze beslissingen  moeten leiden tot een zo efficiënt mogelijke toewijzing van de beschikbare middelen om zo de beste medische zorgen en een zo groot mogelijke toegankelijkheid tot de gezondheidszorg te waarborgen.
