Policy responses

At the regional and local level concrete actions are taking place that explicitly address health inequalities. These initiatives aim to implement the outcomes and recommendations of the Marmot reviews. A Regional Platform on health inequalities is currently in collaboration with SALAR (the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions) implementing such initiatives and programmes.

• Västra Götaland: Regional kartläggning och nedbrytning av WHO-rapporten "Utjämna hälsoskillnader inom en generation (Västra Götaland Region, Regional mapping and decomposition of the WHO report "Tackling health inequities within a generation") The committee for Public Health in Västra Götaland Region has been commissioned by the Regional Council (20 April 2010) to make a regional mapping and decomposition of the WHO report "Closing the Gap in a Generation" (Tackling health inequities within a generation) and that based on this mapping to develop a draft action plan. The work will be carried out in collaboration with the section for regional development and growth, the health care, the municipalities, and organizations with multiple stakeholders. The division of Public Health within Västra Götaland Region coordinates the work.
