European Community Health Indicators Monitoring System (ECHIM)

ECHIM is a project funded by European Union through the Programme of Community Action in the Field of Public Health (2003-2008). ECHIM is a three-year project to develop and implement health indicators and health monitoring in the EU and all EU Member States. It continues the work of the ECHI and ECHI-2 projects, and ends on 30.4.2008. The ECHIM core group has 25 members from different countries.

HEM - Closing the Gap - Reducing Premature Mortality.

The projects aims are: Closing the gap in premature, preventable morbidity, disability and mortality between current EU and applicant countries, with special regard to improving the health of working population and diminishing inequalities in access to health.
Creating baseline for monitoring evolution of preventable, premature morbidity, disability and mortality risk factors following enlargement.
Favourable modification of major risk factors for diseases, especially alcohol and selected nutritional factors (obesity), as well as future contribution to tobacco control.

Reduction of health inequalities in the Roma community

The project aims at gathering information on health status of Roma, their comparasion with mainstream society to produce recommendations and intervention strategies addressed to decision makers; identifying main causes of the lack of proper acces of Roma population to mainstream services, and the lack of proper use of these services due to particular cultural habits in order to address them through trainning and mobilisation of main stakeholders; analysing the influence of socio-economic and environmental causes in detriment of health standards and the role of community leaders, social mediators and romani women in the promotion of healthcare in order to empower them with skills and know-how.

The European Federation of National Organisations Working with the Homeless (FEANTSA)

The health situation of people who are homeless has been a core element of FEANTSA’s work since 2004.
